Day 1 - Todo Application: My 21-Day Frontend Development Challenge ๐ฑโจ
Welcome to Day 1 of my 21-Day Frontend Development Challenge! ๐ In this challenge, I'll be diving deep into ReactJS and building a new project each day. Today, I completed the first project of the challenge, and I'm excited to share my progress with you all. Let's get started!
Project Overview ๐
For Day 1, I decided to create a Todo Application using React. The goal was to build a simple yet powerful application that allows users to manage their tasks effectively. With the Todo Application, users can add new tasks, delete existing tasks, edit task details, and mark tasks as complete. It's a fundamental project that lays the foundation for more complex applications.

What I Learned ๐ง ๐ก
During the development of the Todo Application, I gained valuable insights and learned important concepts. Here are some key takeaways:
React Basics: Building this project allowed me to reinforce my understanding of React's core concepts, such as components, state, and props. I got hands-on experience with component composition and learned how to efficiently manage the state in a React application.
State Management: Implementing the functionality to add, delete, edit, and complete tasks required me to effectively manage the state of the application. I leveraged React's useState hook to handle the dynamic nature of the tasks and ensure seamless updates.
Custom Hooks: To enhance the functionality of the Todo Application, I utilized a custom hook called useLocalStorage.js. This hook leverages the browser's local storage to persist the tasks, ensuring their availability even after refreshing or closing the application.
Project Showcase and Demo ๐๐ท
I'm excited to share the completed Todo Application with you! You can check out the live demo and interact with the application here. Feel free to add, delete, edit, and complete tasks to explore its features.
Development Flow ๐๐ป
In today's project, I decided to build a Todo Application using React. The goal was to create a simple yet powerful application that allows users to manage their tasks effectively. With the Todo Application, users can add new tasks, delete existing tasks, edit task details, and mark tasks as complete.
Here's a step-by-step overview of the development flow:
Setting up the Project: I began by setting up a new React project using create-react-app. This provided me with a solid foundation to work with and set the development environment.
Structuring the Components: I structured the application components, including the TodoList component, TodoItem component, and TodoForm component. The TodoList component serves as the container for all the tasks, while the TodoItem component represents each individual task, and the TodoForm component handles the form input for adding new tasks.
State Management with useState: To handle the state of the tasks, I utilized React's useState hook. This allowed me to maintain a dynamic list of tasks and update it as users interacted with the application.
Persistent Storage with useLocalStorage.js: I implemented a custom hook called useLocalStorage.js, which utilizes the browser's local storage to persist the tasks. This way, even if the page is refreshed or closed, the tasks will still be available when the user returns to the application.
Styling and User Interface: For styling, I opted for a minimalistic design approach using CSS. The focus was on readability and ease of use. The Todo Application features a responsive layout, ensuring a seamless experience across different devices.
Challenges and Problem-solving: Throughout the development process, I encountered a few challenges. One of the key hurdles was managing the state of the tasks and synchronizing them with the local storage. However, with careful debugging and thorough testing, I was able to overcome this obstacle and ensure the smooth functioning of the application.
Deployment and Live Demo: Once the Todo Application was complete, I deployed it using GitHub Pages, making it accessible to anyone interested in trying it out. You can check out the live demo of the Todo Application. Feel free to add, delete, edit, and complete tasks to get a feel for how it works.
Completing Day 1 of this challenge was an exhilarating experience. It allowed me to gain hands-on experience with React and its core concepts, reinforcing my understanding of state management, component composition, and the importance of reusability. This project also highlighted the power of React's ecosystem and the benefits of utilizing custom hooks to streamline development.
What's Next? ๐๐
Completing Day 1 of this challenge has energized me for the days ahead. I'm excited to continue building more exciting projects and deepening my understanding of ReactJs. For the remaining days of the challenge, I have planned a diverse set of projects that will explore various aspects of front-end development.
Stay tuned for the upcoming project updates! I'll be sharing my progress, insights, and code breakdowns on LinkedIn. Make sure to follow me and join me on this exciting journey of front-end development.
